Australian YouTuber Viral Video: An Australian vlogger has come under fire online after posting a video claiming he spent three days in 'India’s deadliest slum.' Pete Zogoulas, who goes by Pete Z, filmed the video in Mumbai’s Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest slum areas and shared it on both Instagram and YouTube. Titled “I Tried Surviving India’s ‘Deadliest Slum,’” the Instagram clip shows Pete narrating his struggles during the three-day stay, including a staged robbery scene. He is accompanied by his Indian friend Ayushi, who helps him find a place to sleep inside Dharavi. The video ends with the two finally securing a bed for the night.

Pete’s YouTube video offers more footage, including interactions with local residents, visits inside homes and glimpses of daily life. According to Pete, his goal was to “experience their lifestyle.” His YouTube bio describes him as “a professional dingus that loves doing crazy things,” and at the time, he had over 262,000 subscribers and more than 4,000 Instagram followers.

However, the video sparked a strong backlash from Indian netizens, who said the portrayal was insensitive and one-sided. Many pointed out that Dharavi, despite its hardships, is also a center of resilience, small businesses and strong community life.

The video shared four days ago received many comments from Instagram users. One user commented, “Hey, I’d suggest you explore the other sides of India too. Most of your recent videos have been placed in Mumbai’s rural areas. As an Indian myself, I think some part of your audience will judge the entire country based on that particular area you’ve covered.” Another mocked his budget, writing, “Next time you go somewhere, take more than USD 100.”

"Mate, try the same in Manchester, let me know if you make it out alive," wrote a third user. "Poor people, poor choice, there are so many good places in India like Ladakh and Taj Mahal, still they are here," added a fourth user. "Dharavi isn’t the world’s largest slum; Orangi Town in Pakistan is. Check your facts before posting. Good news for foreigners is Mumbai’s massive Dharavi redevelopment has already started, so next time you visit India, you’ll see tall skyscrapers instead of slums," added another user.
