A Bengaluru software engineer, Bharat MG posted a rental announcement for his 2-bedroom flat in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He quoted the monthly rent as Rs 45,000 but later increased it to Rs 55,000 after seeing the huge demand for his house.

The flat, which has plush interiors and aesthetic furniture, became a meme template. People used the original post’s words as a cue to create their own funny versions, adding humour to the story. Memes flooded the internet, featuring famous places like Buckingham Palace, Charminar, the Raichand house from ‘K3G,’ and even the beloved piggy bank shaped like a dog house from childhood.

Another username @aakancvedi tweeted a meme for renting Hyderabad’s architectural marvel Charminar.

Bharat claimed that his to let advertisement on social media platform attracted more than 500 enquiries from potential tenants. He wrote, “I never expected so many responses to my rental tweet! They were mostly love, with a bit of hate mixed in for increasing the rent. Really sorry about that!”

Bharat, who claims to work for Google, later apologized for increasing the rent and said he would stick to the original price of Rs 45,000. He also said that he wanted the flat back in the same condition as when the tenants moved in. He planned to schedule flat inspections after September 15th.

Bengaluru is a popular destination for many Multinational Companies, IT giants and start-ups because of which the demand for rental homes is skyrocketing everyday. The landlords often ask for LinkedIn profiles of their tenants and impose many restrictions, which have gone viral on social media earlier.
