Chicken Tikka Masala Cake Viral Video: Most people either refrigerate leftovers or give them away, but Chef Josh Elkin had a completely different idea, he turned his leftovers into a cake. A big fan of Indian food, Elkin surprised the internet with his unusual yet creative take on repurposing extra food.
At the start of his viral video, he admitted, “Indian food is definitely one of my favourites and I always over-order.” Instead of simply reheating the leftovers, he took a bold approach: “You guys ask me all the time, what do you do with your leftovers? Well, I tend to make cakes out of them.”
Using naan as the base, he stacked layers of chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, raita, and mint yogurt chutney. To bring it all together, he coated the entire creation in a thick, green yogurt-mint chutney sauce, making it look nothing like a typical leftover meal. For the finishing touch, he added crispy onion bhajis and pickled red onions, saying, “This is a cake and cakes have toppings. Crispy onion bhajis go on. Then, sirke wale pyaaz – those tangy, pickled red onions.”
The final dish looked surprisingly fancy despite being made from leftovers. With a sense of pride, he declared, “And that’s how I take my leftovers and turn them into cake.” He wrapped up with a playful remark, “Because let’s be honest – everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too.” And with full confidence, he ended with, “Nailed it.” While some admired his out-of-the-box thinking, others weren’t sure what to make of this "naan-traditional" creation.

Josh Elkin shared the viral video on his Instagram account, 'thejoshelkin.' In the caption, he described his unique creation: "Chicken Tikka Masala Cake, Layers of Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Biryani, Raita Yogurt sauce, covered in Mint Chutney Yogurt, and topped with Onion Bhaji and Sirke Wale Pyaaz (pickled red onion). What should my next savory cake be?" The video, posted five days ago, quickly gained attention, racking up 1.5 million views from curious social media users!
The comment section was flooded with reactions, with many users sharing their opinions on the bizarre creation. One user humorously wrote, "As an Indian, this made me finally realise how Italians feel when spaghetti is broken." Another compared it to a famous TV blunder, saying, "This is worse than Rachel’s Meat Trifle."
Some were critical of the dish itself, with one person commenting, "Sorry to say - that naan looks so trash - you need to order better Indian food, then maybe there won’t be leftovers." Another user took issue with the constant use of certain Indian dishes in fusion experiments, saying, "Indians, let’s come together and deal with these white people ruining our food and who think Indian food is all about chicken tikka masala and naan."
