Delhi and its adjoining areas are witnessing an increased number of conjunctivitis cases. Conjunctivitis, which is also known as 'pink eye', is an infectious disease that affects the eye due to viruses or bacteria. While conjunctivitis is a common and contagious eye infection, it might seem unusual to find humour in such a condition. However, internet culture has a way of turning even the most unexpected topics into meme-worthy content.

Memes related to conjunctivitis often play on the symptoms and experiences associated with the infection. From exaggerated depictions of red, swollen eyes to humorous takes on how people try to avoid getting infected, these memes tickle the funny bone of those who have encountered conjunctivitis or know someone who has.

Taking to their X handles, people are sharing all kinds of memes, from Bollywood-related to even jibes at politics. "Me to my EYES after getting infected with CONJUNCTIVITIS," a user tweeted along with a video of some men dancing with watermelons in their hands.

"When the person who has #Conjunctivitis look at me," wrote another user as they shared a Bollywood-related meme. "The Barbie season is not over yet!" tweeted a third user as they connected the pink eye with the Barbie craze.

Moreover, conjunctivitis memes can also inadvertently raise awareness about the infection and its prevention. By sharing memes, people may remind others to practice good hygiene, avoid touching their eyes, and seek medical attention if they suspect they have conjunctivitis.

Amid the incessant rainfall that lashed the national capital and other areas for the past few weeks, there have been multiple cases of Conjunctivitis reported in Delhi NCR. Experts and doctors say children are especially more susceptible to eye infections. Also, along with eye infections, cases of cough and cold are also reported among children.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, Dr JS Titiyal, Chief of RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS, Delhi, said, "We are getting at least 100 cases of conjunctivitis per day. There is usually a seasonal increase in conjunctivitis cases, which coincides with the flu season. The conjunctivitis cases are mostly caused by viruses."
