Just a few days back, India was left shocked over the horrifying video of a Bengaluru auto driver, R Muthuraj, who was seen threatening a woman merely for cancelling an Ola ride. The man, in fact, went as far as slapping the college student which was then followed by abusive language. The clip was quick to go viral, resulting in the police joining in and taking action. The matter hardly faded away from headlines, when yet another shocker was shared on the internet, where a man came forward in ‘support’ of the arrested driver and suggested crowdfunding for him. For those unaware, the man was reportedly arrested by Magadi Road Police under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 74 and 352. He was also slapped with a Rs 30,000 legal fee.

Calling the incident a result of the Bengaluru driver’s ‘frustration’, the man advocated that he already got the deserved punishment by getting arrested. However, for the Rs 30,000 legal fee, the man called the arrested ‘helpless’.

The post, soon after getting shared, went viral and pulled all kinds of reactions. Most people chastised the man for supporting someone who displayed violence against a student for merely cancelling a ride, while a few came in support of the idea.

The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘MohanDasari_’. The post was captioned, “I know it’s a frustration which made him react like that so 4 days in jail. His helplessness of losing his earnings with that duty shouldn’t be as costly as 30,000 legal costs. Any lawyer who wants to help R Muthuraj with bail?I will donate from my side ₹1000 & others too.”

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “30000 rs is less. The punishment should deter other auto guys from behaving like goons. His DL should have been cancelled and auto-seized,” a user said. “I am a kannadiga. I have been many times at the receiving end of such drivers. Either they won’t drop me at my home, stop the vehicle on the main road, or ask for a double metre. Physical violence means jail time. He can keep his frustration where the sun doesn’t shine!!!” added a second person.

“Don’t encourage such behaviour. This wasn’t about Kannada-Hindi debate. Someday you can be at the receiving end of this hooliganism. Donate that ₹1000 to someone in real need,” added a third person. “No! Slapping a woman is literally outraging her modesty! He should be punished! It’s become very easy nowadays to slap anyone, especially a lady!” added another.

“I agree with you and I will contribute Rs.1000/- for the genuine cause. But someone has to see that the Auto Driver gets justice. People who live on daily earnings know the value of money better than mall-hopping passengers,” added another.
