Gurugram Cops Viral Video: Two Japanese tourists in Gurugram had an unexpected experience on their trip when traffic cops allegedly demanded a cash bribe of Rs 1,000 for not wearing a helmet while riding a pillion. The incident was caught on camera and quickly went viral, sparking outrage online. In the viral video, the scooter was being driven by a woman wearing a helmet but the pillion rider was without one. The officers stopped them and claimed they had to pay Rs 1,000 as a 'fine.' One cop can be heard asking, “Can you pay here or in court?” To this, one of the tourists innocently replied, “Can I use a Visa or touch?” The officer flatly refused, saying, “No Visa touch,” after which the tourists handed over two Rs 500 notes. The money was taken without a receipt being given.

As per traffic rules, the penalty for a pillion rider without a helmet is indeed Rs 1,000 but the payment must either be made digitally through the Parivahan app or by card/UPI using an official machine. In this case, no such procedure was followed, raising questions about transparency. The tourists even pointed out that many local riders without helmets were not stopped, suggesting that they may have been selectively targeted.
