Being thankful for what we currently have is one of the best things that one can do. Not only because a little bit of gratitude has only done good, but also because there are people who are facing far more struggles in their lives than you. And as far as the financial aspect of the above said is concerned, people simply ‘surviving’ below the poverty line or begging on the streets mostly top the charts when it comes to ‘lives with struggles’. However, the case with beggars in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore is a bit different. In fact, some of the Indore and Ujjain beggars might not have a job, may beg from dusk to dawn, might not be wearing enough in the winter, but their wallets, somehow, will still have a different story to tell.
MP is one of the biggest states with thousands of beggars begging especially around the temple areas in Ujjain and Indore. With that in mind, the district administration recently reportedly began to take the initiative to make Indore a ‘Beggar Free City’. Under this campaign, Collector Asheesh Singh instructed to ‘mark’ the ‘children begging in the city’, as per reports by Free Press Journal. And it was during this campaign, that the authorities discovered a family of beggars that was playing in ‘lakhs’. Yes, you heard that correctly.
The said family of 5, parents and three children, were caught begging and what was revealed after, left everyone shocked. The woman, who was caught at the Bhawrasla Square or the Luv Kush Square by the authorities, confessed of earning over Rs 2.5 lakh in the last 45 days, as per the Free Press Journal. She, along with her daughter, was caught by the authorities, whereas her husband and other two children fled the area.
The woman, after questioning, also revealed that the duo had two more kids, who were living with their grandparents in Rajasthan. Along with the said family, the woman’s sister and her brother-in-law were also involved in the same ‘begging business’, who were also caught after a few hours. As the case began to unfold further, more shocking details were revealed, like the family owning houses, smartphones, cars, and other luxury items in multiple cities. Taking action into the matter, the young daughter was then sent to a ‘child care home’, whereas action was taken against the adults involved.
Apparently, this was not the first time that the same woman crossed roads with the authorities. Last year, she was also caught for using fake crutches.
As soon as the incident went viral on social media, people were quick to react to it. Apart from the case, the figures related to the number of kids begging in the city also left the authorities with several hurdles amid the Beggar Free City campaign.
