Hurricane Milton Viral Video: Apart from all the worries over it possibly turning into the ‘most powerful hurricane to hit Tampa Bay’ in the last 100 years, it seems like the deadly hurricane Milton also gave a rare glimpse of how movie plots are not so far from reality. Reminding netizens of a typical Hollywood movie mission, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Aircraft Operations Center shared a video of a research aircraft reportedly flying directly into the Milton storm. As the term ‘research’ already suggested, the plane’s pilot and crew took the life-threatening step for research purposes. The video showed the airplane flying amid extreme winds and rain, resulting in the crew finding it hard to remain still.

For those unaware, the deadly Hurricane Milton reached ‘Category 5’ in terms of strength yesterday, October 08. It is reportedly all set to make landfall in Florida’s Tampa Bay area today, October 09. 11 Florida counties, which reportedly have a population of 5.9 million people, are under ‘mandatory evacuation’. As per reports, Milton might end up being the ‘most powerful hurricane to hit Tampa Bay in over 100 years’ accounting to the National Weather Service.

Coming back to the plane video going viral, the aircraft used was reportedly a Lockheed WP-3D Orion aircraft, which was named ‘Miss Piggy’. The aim behind the research was to ‘improve the forecast’ and ‘support’ hurricane research.

The video, after being shared, pulled all kinds of reactions. Most people found the video terrifying and impressive at the same time, while the rest hailed the pilot and the crew for their courage. A few also commended the technology, while the rest cracked a few jokes on the same.

The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘NOAA_HurrHunter’. The post was captioned, “Bumpy ride into Hurricane #Milton on @NOAA WP-3D Orion #NOAA43 ‘Miss Piggy’ to collect data to help improve the forecast and support hurricane research. Credit: Nick Underwood, NOAA.” The video was shared yesterday and pulled more than 4 million views.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “I am no longer nervous about commercial turbulence,” a user said. “It has always been amazing to me that we have planes that can safely fly into and through the strongest and most turbulent parts of the strongest hurricanes,” added a second person.
