Viral Reddit Post: When a reserved ticket doesn’t guarantee your seat, what do you do? That’s the question one train passenger in India is asking after a frustrating travel experience went viral online. The passenger, who had booked a window seat, ended up sitting elsewhere because another man had stretched his legs across the reserved spot. A picture of the incident was shared on Reddit’s r/indianrailways community, showing the man lounging on one seat while his feet rested on the other.

Along with the photo, the traveller wrote, “Some dude kept his feet on my window seat and I had to sit on someone else's seat. What do I do?” The post immediately sparked debate among netizens, with many insisting the passenger should have stood his ground. From angry reactions to empathetic advice, the post clearly struck a chord with travellers who know just how common and annoying such situations can be on Indian trains.

Many users were furious at the behaviour of the man capturing the seat, with one comment reading, “Keeping dirty feet on the seat where someone else is sitting is such a cheap thing to do.” Others kept it short and sharp: “Confront him and take your seat.” "Inform TT, if no response, use the Rail Madad app. I used a police officer who came in next to resolve. But one request from them is that dont raise for such small helps, instead make noise and make TT resolve this. Use this only if TT is not cooperating. But i appreciate the instant response," a second user wrote.

Not everyone was harsh, though. A few people suggested the man with his legs on the seat might not have realised it was reserved, writing, “He probably does not know someone’s claimed it, just ask politely.” "He probably doesn't know someone's. Occupied, just ask politely," added another user.
