Independence Day 2024: Indians woke up to a unique enthusiasm as the country finally entered its 77th year of freedom. Yes, it's August 15 today and India is celebrating its 78th Independence Day. From streets and houses to buildings, it’s just three colours; orange, white and green- which ended up dominating everything as soon as the Sun rose. Amid all the excitement and celebrations, it makes all the sense in the world that the same ‘tricolour domination’ was also seen taking over the desi side of the internet, as people flooded social media with their patriotic greetings and wishes. From wholesome songs, pictures and videos of the Indian flag flying high to people in tricoloured attires and more, netizens shared anything and everything on social media that celebrated India.

Coming to India’s independence, the country was ruled over by the East India Company for more than 200 years. It was just 77 years ago, in 1947, that India finally broke from the shackles of torture and deaths of countless freedom fighters who happily gave their lives for the country’s freedom. For those unaware, India got its freedom in 1947, but it was only in 1950 that it adopted the Constitution of India, which is celebrated as Republic Day, January 26.

As soon as the day began, netizens began to share their Independence Day greetings and videos on the internet
