Reports on incidents related to mass layoffs witnessed a steep rise in the last few months. From leading firms like X to Amazon to Google, thousands lost their jobs during the sudden downsising. The same has also affected smaller start-ups. Facing the same, a start-up founder took to social media to share the ordeal he faced while firing employees.

Sambhav Jain, the founder of the start-up Fam, fired 18 employees from his company. He also tweeted that he is ready to share the profiles of the fired employees so that other firms can provide them with the opportunity if available. However, the move has left the internet divided as some people sided with him, while others criticised the employer.

Taking to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), the man tweeted, “One of the most difficult things to do as a founder is to let people go. Today was a tough day as we had to let go 18 members of the Fam across functions. Parting ways is never easy, especially for a people-first organisation like ours, where everyone is emotionally connected.”

“Given the shift in focus of the company from hyper-growth to sustainability, we wouldn’t have been able to provide these people with a role in the company that could justify their personal growth, could fuel the fire to their passion, and most importantly joy at work,” the tweet further read.

Reacting to the tweet, the netizens had all kinds of reactions. From being compassionate towards the employer to calling the entire thing a marketing strategy, the netizens flooded the comment section with their take.

Some people even came forward to help the laid-off employees and offered other job opportunities.
