From Sudha Murty getting attention over her views on ‘veg and non-veg’ spoons to her son-in-law being the Prime Minister of the UK, the Murthy family, most of the time, is in the limelight for one reason or another. Following suit, Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy recently topped the trends after he left the internet divided with his thoughts on India’s work culture and the need to increase its pace in order to win the global economic race. Narayana Murthy recently attended 'The Record’ podcast by the ‘3one4 Capital’, where he requested the Indian youth to get ready to work for 70 hours a week. “So, my request is that our youngsters must say- This is my country. I'd like to work 70 hours a week,” he was quoted as saying during the podcast. Taking examples of Japan and Germany, he was further quoted as saying, “This is exactly what the Germans and Japanese did after the Second World War... they made sure that every German worked extra hours for a certain number of years.” As soon as the statement surfaced online, people were quick to scribble their views on the internet. Most chastised the man for the statement, while very few sided with him. 

Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy, one of the co-founders of Infosys, is among the richest in the world and is one of the most popular billionaires with a successful history in business. From a popular daughter, and PM son-in-law to wife, Narayana Murthy and his Murthy family has some of the most known leading names from across the world. 

Taking to social media, many criticised the billionaire and ‘called out’ the rich for promoting such a work culture, which would increase the mental stress among the working population. Many also expressed their disappointment over the statement and dubbed it something that reels of ‘corporate slavery’.

“First start paying salary to your Infosys employees like the companies pay in Germany and Japan. And then you call speak BS from your capitalist mouth,” a user said. 

“Indirectly #Infosys founder Narayana Murthy is saying.. work 12 hours per day spoil your mental health due to NO proper sleep after spoiling ur health,spend lakhs of rupees in hospitals for ur treatment increase the business of Infosys increase profit,revenue of Infosys,” added a second person. 

“I agree with Mr. Narayana Murthy. In fact, if Youth starts working for 70 hours a week from college itself, they’ll never have to join Infosys,” said a third person.

“What an elitist take!! I can’t even fathom how he suggests such gruelling work hours. Does he know the time people spend travelling? How tough life can be? Don’t they deserve time with family?” asked a sixth person.
