Mukesh Khanna Returns As Shaktimaan: If you were a desi 90s kid, and were somehow unaware of the iconic ‘apology’- ‘Sorry Shaktimaan’- then your childhood seemingly was a ‘lie’. No, this is not an exaggeration, but seemingly is about a show that pretty much ruled the Indian television for the kids of that time; Shaktimaan. The Indian superhero- who was also a ‘super teacher’- was somewhat of a desi version of DC’s Superman- who was more focused on teaching kids the correct lessons along with saving the world. The character was played by actor Mukesh Khanna, whereas the show went on from 1997 to 2005. However, despite the show being a major hit, the announcement of its return hardly impressed anyone. Wondering ‘why’? Well for that, you might want to take a look at the teaser first.
The teaser was shared three days ago on YouTube, by the handle ‘Bheeshm International’. The post read, “Its time for him to RETURN…”

As soon as the teaser went viral, people had a lot to say. Many questioned the return itself while the rest called the actor’s return as the iconic character something ‘unwanted’. The matter only went out of control after Khanna gave an interview to the news agency ANI, which also ended up pulling attention. Calling the show a necessity to help a ‘generation moving forward blindly’, Khanna dubbed the show’s return his ‘duty’. The actor was also seen apologising for his past statements on the film industry, which were equally controversial.
The interview was shared on X (formerly Twitter), on the official handle of ‘ANI’. The post was captioned, “Mumbai: Actor Mukesh Khanna, who is all set to reprise his iconic character of 'Shaktimaan', speaks about the role.”
“This is a costume within me...I think personally too, in my mind, this costume has come from within me...I did well in Shatimaan because it came from within me...Acting is all about confidence. I forget about the camera when I am shooting...I am even happier than the others about becoming Shaktimaan again. I am carrying out my duty that I started in 1997 and which went on till 2005. I think that my work should reach the public in 2027 because today's generation is running blindly. They have to be stopped and told to catch their breath,” the caption further added. The video was shared three days ago and pulled 889K views from people.

The video, after getting shared, received endless reactions. Most trolled the actor, while some even called him ‘delusional’. A few also suggested another actor who would have been better for the role.
Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “If Birdman is remade in Hindi...he will be the most suitable person to play the role,” a user said. “Imagine after a few bouts of fight, shaktiman being admitted to Max Hospital,” added a second person. “Shaktiman as a character was good. But, Mukesh Khanna as a human is disgusting,” commented another.
“Don't ruin Shaktiman pls, don't do it,” added another. “Dude is stuck in the past. Someone should speak sense to him,” added the next user. “Don't know if I should be happy or sad,” commented a sixth user. “Certain historical characters are best left in their original form—unrevised and unaltered,” added another.
