Some visitors at Disneyland recently got a surprise they absolutely didn’t expect: an enormous black ring floating calmly in the sky. The strange sight left many confused, until photos clicked by Lori Nayahalski quickly went viral online and pushed everyone to hunt for answers.

Soon after the buzz picked up, Disneyland stepped in to clear the mystery. The park explained that the smoky ring wasn’t supernatural or dangerous; it was simply a result of routine testing done before the park opened for the day. The shape had formed from pyrotechnics used in their nighttime shows, as confirmed to KTLA.

Lori, who had captured the moment, called it a “real-life Matrix” and even joked that it looked like “an orchestrated spoof”. She added, “I don’t know, but it was something. It wasn’t dissipating, nor was it a flock of birds,” while speaking to KLTA.

The park’s website mentions that World of Color was created for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary and is inspired by Walt Disney’s famous line: “To all who come to this happy place… welcome!” Fantasmic!, on the other hand, brings a dreamy story alive where “Fast asleep, Mickey dreams he is the Sorcerer’s Apprentice…” as scenes play out on giant water screens.

And now, Disneyland is gearing up for the festive season. From November 14 onwards, visitors will get to enjoy brand-new holiday programs featuring Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale, sparkling projections, parades, and winter-themed attractions.
