Apart from EY Pune and 26-year-old CA Anna Sebastian, it was probably Narayana Murthy- founder of IT giant Infosys- who trended the most after the news of Anna’s death allegedly due to ‘work pressure’ broke online. Not just EY, one of the Big 4 companies, but it was Murthy too, who faced some amount of backlash as people recalled his ‘70 hours a week’ comment. Netizens were quick to chastise the comment as they pointed out the grievous consequences of the rising workplace toxicity in India. India’s ‘not-so-strict’ Labour Laws were also at the receiving end as the tragedy seemingly acted as a wake-up call for the country and its working population. It’s been hardly a couple of months since the matter ruled the headlines, when Infosys founder found himself in the middle of another controversy, in relation to India's work culture.

The business tycoon was reportedly at the ‘Global Leadership Summit’ hosted by a news organisation, when his previous ‘70 hours a week’ statement was reiterated by the host. The host went on to also recall the criticism Murthy faced and asked if he wanted to give any ‘clarification’. However, the billionaire refused to take his statement back and opened up about how he ‘does not believe in work-life balance’. He pointed out India’s long journey to success and the nation’s need to work on its toes to achieve the desired goals. The businessman even expressed his disappointment over companies moving from ‘6 days per week to 5 days’ of working.

Soon after the video of the same was shared, people began to react. Most people chastised the business tycoon over his beliefs and some resorted to sharing memes on the work culture of Infosys.
