Neil Armstrong met a Malayali tea seller on the Moon: South Indian actor Prakash Raj recently landed in legal trouble after he shared a picture of a man making tea on the Moon. The post was in connection to IRSO’s Chandrayaan 3 Moon mission, where the actor hinted that the Lander Module was welcomed by a tea seller on its arrival. “First view just arrived from Chandrayaan,” Prakash Raj's X post read.

The meme soon went viral and landed him in trouble as people associated the image with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But soon netizens started sharing the old Malayali joke that the actor was referring to. The X post by the actor had nothing to do with PM Modi. The joke instead dates back to 1969 when astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon.
After Neil Armstrong's Moon ride, a joke started circulating in Kerala where the people said that one can find Malayali people everywhere, including the Moon. The old saying was, "you will find a Malayali wherever you go." Now, explaining the old saying that had no connection with PM Modi, netizens flooded the internet with their reactions and defended the actor.
"I practically grew up with this picture of Neil Armstrong getting greeted by Chandrettan,” wrote a user and shared an old image on the topic.

If it makes any difference, @prakashraaj is referencing a joke (that predates anyone you feel he is insulting) about how we find Keralites at every corner of the world and how the first thing Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin saw when they… pic.twitter.com/reJJKkgHeY

“You will find a Malayali even on the moon” is a 1960s joke that speaks of how Neil Armstrong landed on the moon to find a Malayali with a tea shop. The joke meant that Malayalis everywhere.
