Viral Video: In recent years, the language debate in India has turned into a major issue. From some people prioritising Hindi for being the ‘main’ language to others not accepting the language as the only means of communication, the debate has witnessed some mixed reactions and takes. Becoming a prime example of the same, a recent video went online and divided people over the same debate. The said video was a virtual office meeting, where some colleagues were seen fighting and arguing over speaking Hindi. Where one was repeatedly speaking in Hindi, others were again and again reminding him to switch to English as not everyone understood Hindi.
The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Ghar ke kalesh’. The post was captioned, “Kalesh b/w Colleagues over one Guy was speaking Hindi during Team Zoom meeting.”

The video immediately went viral as people were left divided over the matter. Many sided with the man and spoke on Hindi being a common language, while others were against him and reminded everyone that the language was not India’s ‘national language’. Some also recalled their own experiences. The video was shared a while back and pulled a whooping 1M views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Why can't he speak English btw, how would it feel if someone from there spoke teamil/kannada to him”, a user said. “In my 16 years of IT career, I never initiated regional language discussion during any team meeting since we know not everyone understands all the language so keep it common however I get surprised when the initiation comes for client leaders, no matter which state they come from be it Maha or TN or KN or WB or even Delhi the language will he Hindi if they are just all them or even me the call, I never mind and why should I,” added a second.
“So what clearly comes through this is, that English is our national language! Amen,” joined a third. “People take pride in their regional languages but if they have to communicate with people from other regions of India, they should prefer Hindi over English as the common preferred language,” wrote a fourth person.
