Viral Reddit Post: A man boarded the train with a confirmed lower berth ticket, thinking it would be a peaceful journey to Ujjain, but things took an unexpected turn. In a viral Reddit post, an Indian Railways passenger shared how a simple act of kindness left him stressed and standing. It all began when a group of middle-aged men boarded his coach and started settling in. Around lunchtime, one of them politely asked him to shift for a bit so they could sit together and eat. Being kind and helpful, he agreed.

But what seemed like a short request turned into a long, uncomfortable situation. “They had been eating for over an hour. They even used the hanger to hang their clothes while others couldn’t use it,” he wrote, along with a blurred photo of the group. When he finally asked for his seat back, he was met with a mocking reply: “Are ye toh young log haikahibhi baith saktehai, hum budhehotejaatehai.” The only seat left was the middle berth, which he didn’t like. When he insisted, one of the men spoke to him rudely.

The passenger, who called himself an introvert, felt helpless. “Me, being an introvert, don't know how to tackle them,” he added. What hurt him most was how casually his age was used against him. “Have we signed up to always ‘respect’ elders even when they show none in return? Aren't they supposed to do the same irrespective of the ages? Idk what's wrong with these elderly people. They think they have some sort of implied authority over everyone younger than them.”

He turned to Reddit for advice and asked fellow users: “Please tell me the best polite way to ask them to vacate so that they won't label me as muhhphaat?” His story struck a chord online, with many supporting his frustration.

The post, after being shared, received many comments from Reddit users. One user wrote, "You paid the same price for the ticket, didn't you? Kindness is not a qualification, as it used to be. It is a weakness now. You have to defend yourself. No one can do this for you. Be firm if you want your seat. You have paid money, you have to fight for it." "You don't need to be polite....just say I gave my willingness while booking and I got it....I am not comfortable in middle birth or upper birth...just say it bro...you got it....believe," a second user added.

"Tell them adamantly that you want your seat! Raise your voice a bit. Even I was like you, a kind of introvert. But later, it created a sense of frustration as to why I did not respond. So my wisdom says.. you go anc confront them "It's my seat and I am not going to vacate".. make a facial expression as if you were to tell them "STFU & Get Lost"," a third user wrote. "You're clearly wrong to respect someone because of their age. See, this is taught to us in India, so elders don't have to answer the question. Respect the person, not the age," added another user.
