Shruti Chaturvedi, an Indian entrepreneur living in the US, recently opened up about a terrifying experience she faced at Anchorage airport in Alaska. In a series of social media posts, Shruti shared how a regular security check turned into an hours-long nightmare that left her shaken and silenced.
Shruti, who founded the India Action Project and runs the digital platform Chaaipani, said her ordeal began when airport officers flagged a power bank in her handbag as “suspicious.” While the device was packed in her carry-on—as per US flight rules, the situation quickly spiraled into something much worse.
She said she was held for over eight hours, questioned aggressively, and denied basic rights like making a phone call or using the restroom. Things got worse when a male officer physically frisked her, and she wasn’t allowed to keep her phone or even her warm clothes. Shruti wrote about the horrifying experience saying:
"Imagine being detained by Police and FBI for 8 hours, being questioned about the most ridiculous things, physically checked by a male officer on camera, stripped off warm wear, mobile phone, and wallet, kept in a chilled room, not allowed to use a restroom, or make a single phone call, made to miss your flight - all because the airport security found your power bank in handbag 'suspicious'," Chaturvedi said.

According to her, no proper explanation was given. She missed her flight and couldn’t even let her family in India know what had happened. It wasn’t until she left the US that she could finally share the experience online.
In a follow-up post, she added: "Hi! I am alright and posted this only after I was out of the USA. They let me and my friend go after 8 hours of nonsense and not finding anything. They still kept the whole luggage bag and gave a frivolous duffle to keep the luggage. Anyway - the point is - outside of India, Indians are pretty powerless. Especially when you aren’t even allowed to make a phone call to anyone in India."

Shruti’s shocking post was shared on her official X handle @adhicutting just a day ago, and it quickly gained massive attention online. The post has already crossed 1.2 million views, with people from across the globe reacting to her experience.
Many users poured in with support, concern, and questions. One person commented, “So sorry this has happened to you Shruti! Are you doing okay? Did you finally get help?” Another asked, “Hope you are fine now? But how come FBI at the airport, it should be Border control officials.” A third user echoed a powerful sentiment shared by many: “I hope you're all well now. The truth is Indians have zero power or respect outside India.”
