Remember the most popular ‘door’ in the history of cinema that divided half the world? Yes, we are talking about the one about which millions agree on the fact that it COULD have possibly saved our much-loved Jack, played by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, in the 1997 blockbuster, James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’. Well, it seems like the door ended up being a real ‘want’ as it has been sold for a whopping $718,750 (more than Rs 5 crore). It was auctioned at Planet Hollywood event’s Heritage Auctions’ Treasures, and became the highest-selling film prop, beating some other iconic props like the ‘bullwhip from Temple of Doom’, from Indiana Jones, the ‘red rose bowling ball’ from Kingpin, and more.

For those unfamiliar with the film or the scene, first of all, where were you all these years? How have you not watched THE Titanic? Secondly, the said door was used in the film at the end, where the protagonists, Jack and Kate Winslet’s Rose, ended up on a wooden plank in the middle of the freezing ocean. However, due to the possible ‘lack of space’, Rose remained on the wooden plank, while Jack chose to just ‘hang around’ in the freezing water. The result was as practical as possible, before the help arrived, Jack lost his life to the ocean's freezing cold water and Rose barely made it alive.

Regardless, the door’s value increased manyfold in the film, and outside it, as it became the discussion point of one of the biggest debates- survival of Jack. Many believed that Jack could have survived if he had just hopped onto the plank, while some believed that the ‘door’ was not heavy or big enough to sustain him and Rose both at once.

Coming back to the auction, the said ‘door’, is reportedly not even a door, as the ‘action note’ read it as ‘door frame just above the [ship’s] first-class lounge entrance’, as per reports by Hollywood Reporter.
