Uber India is under fire over its handling of an incident that led to netizens questioning its safety and security norms. Sharing a horrifying incident with the internet, a woman took to her social media handle and shared a few screenshots of some texts that were sent by her Uber driver on her phone after completing the Uber ride. The woman further explained the incident and narrated her ordeal over the safety threat that she felt after receiving the texts. In the inappropriate texts, the Uber driver was seen asking the woman to be his friend. The post was shared on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) by the user ‘thisisbhumika’, with the caption, “Hello @Uber_India Support Team, I am writing to express my serious concern regarding a recent experience I had with one of your driver. On 19/10/2023, I encountered a distressing situation where I received inappropriate messages from one of your drivers after a ride.” She further went on to explain the matter as she continued her caption.

The post is going viral on the internet. Most people felt unsafe and disappointed as the incident posed a major threat to the citizens. Others expressed their concerns over the woman’s safety. The post was shared today and pulled 398K views from people. 

After the matter went viral, Uber also took notice of the complaint and replied, “Hi Bhumika, sorry to hear about the trouble. Could you please share with us the mobile number linked to your account via Direct Message? We'll follow up.” However, not much has been seen since this particular reply. Meanwhile, many people engaged with the same X thread and continued to ask for actions and steps taken by Uber.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “I was shocked when I heard that this happened to one of my friends some time back. This is some low. Hope some action is taken by Uber as this seems to be a general practice,” a user said. “Hello, Bhumika, Just came across your post. This is a serious concern. I recommend you to please file a police complaint against this driver. This is for your safety,” added a second user. “This is scary. The drivers know our phone number and address and we don't know anything about them. And, we need to depend on Uber. Not safe at all,” said a third person. “This is so creepy and scary, hope you are safe,” joined another.
