Viral Video: Resorting to selling ‘pakodas’ after staging a protest for 192 days against 'illegal termination', a PhD ad-hoc professor of the Delhi University's Daulat Ram College, Dr Ritu Singh’s ‘pakoda’ stall was removed by the police, a video of which was shared online. The clip immediately went viral on social media and triggered mixed reactions. In the video, Singh was seen standing against police officials as she blamed them for removing her stall because she belonged to the ‘Dalit community’. The stall was set up in front of the University premises, by the name ‘PhD Pakkode Wali’. Whereas the earlier protest was staged outside the University’s Arts Faculty, over the 28-year-old allegedly facing ‘caste harassment’ and ‘illegal termination’.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police, as per reports, booked her as her stall was ‘impeding public movement in the area’. The police have also registered an FIR against the ‘pakoda’ seller under Section 283 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation) of the IPC, as per reports.
As soon as the said video began to do rounds on the internet, many came to her support and sided with her, while a majority of the section was seen opposing her ‘way of protest’ and asked her to rather go for a licence before setting up the stall.
The video was originally shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Anita_meena2’. The post was captioned in Hindi, which roughly translated to, Police removed the stall of PHD pakoda seller #DrRituSingh, earlier he said making pakodas is employment, now he is not even allowing employment. Watch this video and think about what the government has done to the educated youth of the country!”

The video, ever since it was shared, went viral on social media. The video mostly left people divided, as some sided with the woman and suggested that she should approach the Court, while the rest raised questions about her licence for the stall. The clip was shared yesterday and pulled 117K views from people.
Taking to the comment section, people shared their views. “What license did you take? Did you take a food license? Did you get any registration done for your shop? Being a PhD holder, doesn't he know this much? The rest have become so famous that even if they start a startup with pakodas, they can earn well!” a user said.
“Had this gimmick lady got a license to make pakodas? If Parvana is making pakodas without a license then the stall will definitely be demolished. First, get the license. Then make pakodas day and night. Who has refused? Otherwise, make pakodas at home,” said a second person.
“Salute to this brave lady. If the government is not compassionate with the people, what else could they do,” added a third person. “Pakoda business is profitable. Anyone can do pakoda business. If police are not allowed, she must approach the court,” said a fourth person.
