Some phenomena, despite being deadly disasters, are simply too beautiful to not fall for. From roaring Northern sea waves to the dark and icy frozen rivers, the world is full of breathtaking views that are otherwise a sure death to any living creature. Social media being the internet storage of anything and everything that there is, is full of such ‘hazardous’ beauties. Joining the bandwagon, a video recently added to the list where a deadly natural disaster turned into a visual treat. A video of an Indonesian volcanic eruption surfaced online and instantly became a sensation. The reason behind the ‘fame’ was that the eruption had an unusually beautiful blue lava, which left netizens intrigued.
The video of the lava flowing down the mountain like a hot ‘blue’ river, went viral in a blink of an eye. It was later revealed in the viral post’s caption that the release of sulphur was responsible for the breathtaking view.
The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘gunsnrosesgirl3’. The post was captioned, “The lava from Indonesia's Kawah Ijen volcano has an electric blue appearance.”

The video left the netizens intrigued and mesmerised, garnering compliments. Most people loved the exotic sight and asked about the reason behind the blue flames, while the rest explained the scientific reason behind the unusual view. The post was shared yesterday and pulled 344K views from people.
Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “The blue lava phenomenon is caused by an abundance of sulphur pockets in the rock. Sulphur is a chemical element that’s released as the rock liquefies, and while burning, it releases noxious gases like sulphur dioxide. It also creates a striking blue flame,” a user said. “I would say I love lava, but that's probably a bad thing,” said a second person. “How does lava become that colour? Can anyone explain this?” asked another curious person. “This Indonesian volcano burns with amazing bright blue flames,” added another.
"Volcano blue lava- likely refers to the phenomenon of blue lava that can sometimes be observed in certain volcanic eruptions. This occurs when certain minerals present in the volcanic rocks react with the intense heat and produce a blue flame. The blue colour is often associated with the presence of sulfuric gases or other elements,” explained another netizen.
