YouTube Billionaire MrBeast Plans To Buy TikTok Amid US Ban Threat; Internet Reacts

Amid the threat of TikTok being banned in the US, famous YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, is planning to purchase the platform. With over 170 million Americans using TikTok, the platform faces a potential shutdown on January 19 due to a federal law that mandates its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sell its US operations by that date or risk a ban. MrBeast, who has millions of followers across multiple platforms, has expressed his intention to intervene and keep TikTok available for American users.

In a viral TikTok video, MrBeast can be heard saying, "I just got out of a meeting with a group of billionaires. TikTok, we mean business. This is my lawyer right here. We have an offer ready for you. We want to buy the platform. America deserves TikTok. Give me a seat at the table. Let me save this platform, TikTok."

Additionally, MrBeast took to social media and posted on X, "Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned.” The post garnered over 36 million views from users. Following that, he made another post, saying, "Unironically, I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this. Let’s see if we can pull this off."

Reason For TikTok Ban:

The potential global ban on TikTok comes from a law signed by President Joe Biden in 2023, aimed at addressing national security issues. The law gives ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, until January 19, 2025, to sell the app or face a ban in the US. If ByteDance doesn't sell TikTok by that date, the app will be blocked in the US, and it will become illegal for app stores and hosting services to distribute it.

YouTube sensation MrBeast, who has 841 million subscribers across his channels according to USA Today, has hinted at buying the TikTok platform. Recently, MrBeast also launched a new TV show with Amazon Studios, Beast Games, where 1,000 contestants compete for a $5 million cash prize.
