Terrifying videos have emerged showing tremors of a massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Philippines. Videos captured the moments when tremors across the southern island of Mindanao crushed residential buildings and shopping malls. Striking early Monday morning, the earthquake triggered widespread panic, knocking out regional power grids and prompting immediate, urgent tsunami warnings for coastal communities.

Authorities in the Philippines, Indonesia and international monitoring agencies quickly issued tsunami alerts, urging people living along vulnerable coastlines to move to higher ground.

"We advise people to evacuate to higher grounds or go further inland," Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) chief Teresito Bacolcol said.

In the videos shared online, several buildings were seen crumbling into rubble as the ground shook violently. In a clip filmed outside a school campus, students were seen gathered in an open ground area as a precautionary measure as the building collapsed.

High school and university buildings have collapsed after a powerful earthquake struck the city.

Prayers for the victims and rescuers on the ground.The earthquake has killed at least one person and injured four others, AFP said. Police said a number of buildings and houses collapsed in the affected areas, while rescue operations remained underway.

Tsunami warnings were issued by authorities in the Philippines and neighbouring Indonesia after the quake struck at a depth of around 10 kilometres. The US Tsunami Warning System also warned of a potential tsunami threat across parts of the Pacific region.
