Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus arrived in China’s Hainan province on Wednesday for a four-day visit, during which he is set to hold crucial bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Muhammad Yunus landed at Qionghai Bo'ao International Airport on Wednesday, where he was received by Bangladesh’s Ambassador to China, Md Nazmul Islam, and Hainan province's Vice Governor.

According to Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry, Yunus will meet Xi Jinping on March 28, with both nations expected to sign several agreements. His visit is seen as a significant step in strengthening Bangladesh-China relations.

Earlier this month, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen emphasised the importance of the visit, calling it the most crucial in the 50-year-long relationship between the two countries.

During his visit, Muhammad Yunus will deliver a speech on "Asia in a Changing World: Towards a Shared Future." The session will also feature China’s Executive Vice Premier. Additionally, he will participate in the Boao Forum, often referred to as the "Davos of the East", where global leaders and CEOs discuss critical international issues.

Peking University, one of the world’s top academic institutions, is set to confer an honorary doctorate on Yunus, where he will also deliver a speech.

Ambassador Yao Wen highlighted growing Chinese investments in Bangladesh. He confirmed that Longi, a leading solar panel manufacturer, will establish an office and invest in Bangladesh’s solar panel production.

The decision follows Yunus’ invitation to Chinese companies in December, urging them to relocate their manufacturing plants as part of Bangladesh’s strategy to position itself as an economic hub.
