Bangladesh Violence: At least 91 people, including 14 police officers, were killed and hundreds injured on Sunday in violent clashes between protesters demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and supporters of the ruling Awami League in various parts of Bangladesh. The unrest led authorities to impose a nationwide curfew and cut off mobile internet services indefinitely. The fresh round of violence erupted days after over 200 people were killed in fierce clashes between police and mostly student protesters, demanding an end to the controversial quota system that allocates 30 per cent of government jobs to relatives of veterans from Bangladesh's 1971 War of Independence.

- The clashes broke out on Sunday morning when protesters participating in a non-cooperation program organised by the Students Against Discrimination, demanding the government's resignation over a job quota system, encountered resistance from supporters of the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League activists.
- The situation led authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in major cities and small towns across Bangladesh starting at 6 PM on Sunday.
- Troops, paramilitary border guards (BGB), and the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion, along with police forces, were mobilised to enforce the curfew.
- The government ordered the shutdown of Meta platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The mobile operators were also instructed to disable 4G mobile internet services.
- The government has also declared a three-day general holiday on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to enhance public safety amid the ongoing violent protests nationwide.
- Meanwhile, PM Hasina said that those engaging in "sabotage" across the country in the name of protest are not students but "terrorists" and asked people to suppress them with a firm hand. "I appeal to the countrymen to suppress these terrorists with a firm hand,” she said as quoted by news agency PTI.
- Officials claimed that today's protests were joined by unidentified individuals and activists from the right-wing Islami Shashontantra Andolon.
- The protesters targeted police stations, ruling party offices, and the residences of party leaders, and set several vehicles on fire, they added.
- Several vehicles at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) were set on fire by unidentified individuals on Sunday, according to the Daily Star. People armed with sticks vandalised private cars, ambulances, motorcycles, and buses on the hospital grounds, causing panic among patients, their families, doctors, and staff, the paper said.
