The Bangladesh Police on Sunday filed a case against Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das and his followers in connection with the clash between police and his supporters on the court premises in Chittagong.
According to The Dhaka Tribune newspaper, the case was filed by Enamul Haque, a Hefazat-e-Islam activist and businessman, in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abu Bakar Siddique. The case mentioned Das, arrested on sedition charges, as the prime accused in connection with the violence, along with 164 identified individuals and 400 to 500 unidentified people.
In his police complaint, Haque alleged that he was attacked by the monk’s followers while returning home after completing land registry work at the court on November 26. In his FIR, Haque also claimed that he was attacked because he was wearing a panjabi, a kurta, and a cap, which led to injuries to his right hand and head.

According to reports, bystanders came to his aid and he was later admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Haque mentioned that the delay in filing a case was due to the extended period of illness he suffered as a result of the attack.
"Haque was assaulted on November 26 on the court premises by followers of Chinmoy Krishna. His right hand was fractured, and he sustained head injuries. The case names 164 individuals, with Chinmoy Krishna as the principal accused," Haque’s lawyer said.
The violence in Chattogram escalated after a clash erupted at a court following the arrest of Das, a former ISKCON member and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sommilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote, at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 25. The protests that followed turned violent across the country, with one particularly intense protest in Chattogram resulting in the tragic death of Assistant Government Prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif.
The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das resulted in a surge of violent attacks on the minority Hindu community. The attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh started soon after Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5 following violent student protests seeking her resignation.
