An alleged poisoning attempt has been made on former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, according to reports. Assad, who has been under the protection of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow since December 8 last year, is said to be the target of this suspected attack.
Reports have surfaced of an alleged poisoning attempt on Bashar al-Assad, the ousted dictator of Syria, who has been residing in Moscow under the protection of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
An online account, General SVR, claims ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad fell ill on Sunday, experiencing violent coughing and choking shortly after requesting medical help. The account suggests it may have been an assassination attempt. Assad was reportedly treated in his apartment and stabilised by Monday.
General SVR further claimed that Bashar al-Assad's condition was reported to the Russian leadership. As of Monday evening, Assad's condition is stable, and he reportedly feels normal. Tests revealed traces of a poisonous substance in his body, and an investigation is ongoing to determine how the exposure occurred.
Russian authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the claims. However, sources close to the Kremlin suggest heightened security measures around Assad's residence in Moscow.

Assad’s Mysterious Illness Raises Questions Of Foul Play
Assad has been in exile in Russia since December 8, 2024, following his removal from power in Syria. Assad, once a central figure in Syria’s protracted civil war, has been a controversial figure on the global stage, with many accusing him of widespread human rights violations during his regime.
Reports suggest Russian officials, including Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, were informed of the incident involving Bashar al-Assad. An investigation is underway to determine the source of the alleged poisoning. Assad and his family have been residing in Moscow since fleeing Syria after the Baath regime's collapse last month.
