The Israeli state attorney’s office announced on Sunday that it has opened a criminal investigation into Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The decision comes after a request from Democratic Union Member of Knesset (MK) Naama Lazimi, following revelations from an expose aired by the Uvda investigative journalism program on Channel 12.
According to reports by The Jerusalem Post, the Uvda investigation uncovered allegations that Sara Netanyahu played a key role in intimidating and harassing witnesses involved in her husband’s ongoing criminal cases. It is also alleged that she targeted political figures perceived as threats to the prime minister’s legal defence. These findings have led to increased scrutiny over her actions, prompting authorities to take legal action.
The state attorney’s office confirmed that the investigation is being conducted by the Israel Police, with assistance from the cyber department. According to the media reports, the inquiry will focus on whether Sara Netanyahu actively interfered in legal proceedings and engaged in witness harassment, which could carry serious legal consequences.

Netanyahu’s Corruption Trial
The developments come at a time when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is embroiled in a long-running corruption trial. The prime minister is facing multiple charges, including bribery, fraud, and breach of public trust in three separate cases. Netanyahu has repeatedly dismissed the allegations against him as baseless, calling them “ridiculous”.
His trial, which first began in May 2020, has been delayed multiple times. The legal proceedings are expected to last for several more months, with the possibility of further delays if an appeal is filed. Netanyahu had previously sought to postpone the hearings, citing ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon as reasons for the delays.
One of the most serious accusations against the prime minister and his wife involves receiving luxury gifts—reportedly worth over USD 260,000—including cigars, jewellery, and champagne from wealthy business figures. Prosecutors allege that these gifts were given in exchange for political favours, raising concerns about conflicts of interest at the highest levels of government.
