Peel Regional Police in Canada have arrested eight Indian-origin men accused of stealing hundreds of pieces of mail, including cheques, credit cards, and government IDs, worth more than CAD 400,000.

Authorities said the suspects collectively face 344 criminal charges for their alleged roles in what police have called a coordinated scheme targeting residential mailboxes across the Peel and Halton regions. The accused include both Canadian citizens and foreign nationals, with several possibly facing deportation.

The arrests came after an extensive investigation launched jointly by Peel Police, Halton Police, and Canada Post under the codename “Operation Undeliverable.” The probe began earlier this year following a surge in reports of stolen mail across suburban neighbourhoods.

“The investigation uncovered a group of individuals working together to target residential mailboxes, resulting in widespread theft and disruption to community members,” Peel police said in a statement on Friday.

Search warrants were executed on September 8 and 9 at multiple residences in Mississauga and Brampton, including addresses on Rhinebank Street, Brandon Gate Drive, Dwiggin Avenue, and Kittridge Drive.

Massive Haul Of Stolen Mail And IDs

During the raids, officers recovered 465 pieces of stolen mail, including 255 cheques, 182 credit cards, 35 government-issued IDs, and 20 gift cards. Police estimate the value of the stolen property to be over CAD 400,000.

Investigators believe the suspects may have used the stolen mail for financial fraud and identity theft, exploiting victims’ personal and financial information for illicit gains.
