Nineteen-year-old Gursimran Kaur, a Canadian Walmart employee, was tragically found dead in the walk-in oven of the bakery at the Walmart on Mumford Road in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on October 19, 2024. Originally from India, Kaur had immigrated to Canada from the United Kingdom with her mother just three years prior.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, it was Kaur's mother, who also worked at the Walmart, that discovered her daughter's remains. The incident has left the community in shock and raised questions about workplace safety and the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
Halifax Regional Police confirmed that Gursimran Kaur's body was found in a walk-in oven, prompting shock and grief within the community. Harjit Seyan, president of the Maritime Sikh Society, expressed that both the community and Kaur's family are deeply affected by the tragedy, emphasising their trauma and sorrow over the loss.
Walmart Employee's Mysterious Death Shocks Community
Local media reports indicate that Gursimran Kaur's burnt remains were found by her mother, who also worked at the same Walmart. The two had been employed there for the past two years. On the evening of the incident, Gursimran's mother became concerned after not seeing her daughter for an hour and was unable to reach her by phone.
After asking around without success, she approached the onsite admin for assistance. Tragically, after several hours of searching, her daughter's charred remains were discovered inside the walk-in oven in the bakery, leading to unimaginable horror for her mother when she opened the oven door.
In response to the tragedy, the Maritime Sikh Society has organized psychological counselling for Gursimran Kaur's family and others impacted by the loss. Harjit Seyan highlighted the society's dedication to supporting the family during this challenging period.
