Iran on Wednesday claimed that it "successfully targeted" an American F-18 fighter jet, releasing a video purportedly showing a fighter jet losing altitude after being hit by a ballistic missile mid-air. Iran's Press TV posted the video on its official X handle, affirming Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) claim that it shot down a US fighter jet.

Iran Releases Video

The video shows an aircraft in the air before a flash of light strikes it, and the jet appears to lose control and lose altitude. However, the post did not provide the exact location of the attack or any detail on the level of damage and pilot's wellbeing. Sharing the video, the channel wrote on X, "Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announces that it has successfully targeted an American F-18 fighter jet." The Daily Jagran could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

US Reacts To Video Shared By Iran

After the footage surfaced online, the United States denied claims of its fighter jet being shot down by Iran's IRGC. The US Central Command in a post on X, rejected the claims, calling it "false" news. It clarified that no American fighter aircraft was shot down by Iran as it claimed. "FALSE: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced a U.S. F/A-18 fighter was struck over Chabahar using new advanced air defence systems. TRUE: No U.S. fighter aircraft have been shot down by Iran," the CENTCOM wrote on X.

This development comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has asserted that negotiations with Iran are going on. However, Iran has denied any such talks. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday said that the US is sending messages through different mediators, which "does not mean negotiations", while another source said Tehran sees a 15-point US plan as "extremely maximalist and unreasonable."
