Most locals would think that it is considered an insult to the marriage and the wife's honor if a husband forgets their wife's birthday.

What Happens If You Forget Your Wife's Birthday In Samoa?

According to reports in Samoa, forgetting your wife's birthday is not only irresponsible it's allegedly a crime that can land husbands in prison for five years. According to local media, in Samoa, the law empowers wives to lodge a formal complaint at the police station if their husband misses their birthday. In the first occurrence, the police give the husband a stern warning to be more careful in the future. But if the same mistake is repeated, the law provides for a fine or imprisonment which may last up to five years. The idea, according to local officials, is to make sure husbands are aware and pay heed to significant dates that are meaningful in a marriage. The Samoan government hopes to enhance family ties and facilitate respect among spouses by implementing this law.

Reports further indicate that Samoa has established a special police force to deal with such grievances from wives. This unit ensures that husbands who consistently ignore their wives' birthdays are taken to court in accordance with the law. Furthermore, the Samoan government is said to hold awareness camps throughout the nation to educate women regarding their rights and legal actions they can take when their husbands forget this day.

Mixed Reaction Erupted

Some of the local sources paint a different picture. The Samoa Observer, a leading local newspaper, quoted Samoan lawyer Fiona Ey, who called this claim “an apocryphal story.” According to Ey, there is no such law in Samoa’s legal books, and this myth has been circulating online for years without any basis in fact. The story reportedly resurfaced in 2019 when a UK-based legal magazine published it without verification.
