US President Donald Trump on Friday revealed that he has given instructions for the United States to launch an unprecedented attack on Iran if he is assassinated. His remarks come two days after he claimed that Iran may be planning to assassinate him amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.

What Has Trump Instructed?

Speaking to The New York Post, Trump said he believes Iran has wanted to target him for years. He claimed that he has been on Iran’s list of targets for a long time. “I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,” Trump said. He added that he had already given instructions on how the US should respond if any assassination attempt against him succeeds. “I’ve left instructions, if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before,” Trump said.

Trump Denies Reports Of Israeli Intelligence Warning

When asked about reports that Israel had provided intelligence about a possible Iranian assassination plot, Trump rejected the claims. “No, no. Israel came up with nothing,” he told the NYP. Earlier on Wednesday, speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump said he believes he is a top target for Iran. He suggested that some elements within the Iranian leadership may want to take revenge against him.

Trump said, “I'm number one on the kill list for Iran... I don't really care because I'm doing my job and I'm doing it, I hope, better than anybody's ever done it because we have a country that's hot and really, really successful... I like being number one on TikTok better, but I'm number one on the list for killing.”

US-Iran Tensions Escalate

Trump’s statement comes at a time when tensions between the US and Iran have increased. Iran and the US have exchanged attacks in the past two days. Also, a banner carrying a threatening message (We Will Kill You Trump) against Trump was reportedly displayed during the burial ceremony of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
