US President Donald Trump has once again launched a scathing attack on the electric vehicle (EV) mandate, calling it “ridiculous” and arguing that Americans should not be forced to buy electric cars. In a fiery post on his social media platform, Trump said the EV mandate has always been a key part of his campaign rhetoric. “It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one,” he said, reaffirming his long-standing stance against government-imposed green energy rules. In an incendiary posting on his social media site Truth Social, Trump asserted that battling the EV mandate has been a key plank of his campaign all along. "Electric cars are okay, but they shouldn't make everyone buy one," Trump wrote.
Doubling down on his barrage, turned his fire on Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, accusing Musk of profiting from what he called "more subsidy than any human being in history." Without that government subsidy, Trump contended, Musk would have to "close up shop and head back home to South Africa," ending rocket launches, satellite manufacturing, and EV production altogether. "Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa. No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Musk Slammed Trump On X
Earlier, Elon Musk fired his own broadside targeting Trump's signature tax cut and spending bill, which Musk ridiculed as "One Big Beautiful Bill." Posting a string of vicious remarks on X (formerly Twitter), Musk condemned Congress for hypocrisy and irresponsible spending, pointing out the record-breaking 5 trillion USD debt ceiling hike in the bill. "It's clear with the crazy spending in this bill—which raises the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS—that we have a one-party country…the PORKY PIG PARTY!" Musk posted. In a dramatic move, Musk suggested he might form a whole new political party if the hotly contested bill is passed. "If this crazy spending bill gets passed, the America Party will be launched the following day," the Tesla chief threatened, asserting the country must have a choice from what he described as the Democrat-Republican "uni-party."

Musk also railed against lawmakers who ran on reducing spending but voted for what he termed as the largest debt ceiling increase in history. "Each member of Congress who ran on cutting government spending and then promptly voted for the largest debt increase in history ought to hang their head in shame!" he wrote, going on to say, "And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth," he added.
Even as the barbs went back and forth, Trump subsequently called Musk "wonderful" in a secondary statement but reiterated that without subsidies, Musk's empire would crumble.
