Heatwave In France

France is among the worst affected countries in the ongoing heatwave across Europe. According to reports, temperatures have reached extreme levels. Paris recorded more days above 40 degrees Celsius this week than it did between 1872 and 2019 combined, underscoring how unusual and intense the current weather conditions are.

The heatwave has also affected parts of Italy and Spain, where such extreme and prolonged temperatures are becoming increasingly common. According to meteorologists, the intense European heatwave is caused by a stagnant high-pressure system known as an "Omega Block." This system has created a heat dome over western and central Europe, pulling scorching air northward from North Africa and trapping it over the region.

Earlier, an April report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) found Europe is warming at more than double the global rate.
