An explosion and gunfire were reported in Pakistan’s Karachi on Saturday, near several universities and the country’s meteorological department. According to Pakistani media reports, the blast also occurred close to the offices of the Rangers, a paramilitary force. Initial reports suggest that at least six people, including three Rangers personnel and three attackers, were killed in the incident.

3 Rangers Dead

Pakistan’s news outlet, Dawn reported that special security units, including the Rapid Response Force and police commandos, were sent to the site after the incident in Karachi. The attack took place on a major road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, which connects several universities and leads to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department. The area was quickly cordoned off by police and paramilitary forces to control the situation and prevent further escalation.

Karachi’s Inspector General Javed Alam Odho told Dawn that initial reports suggest three Rangers personnel and three attackers were killed during the assault on the paramilitary headquarters. Officials have not confirmed the cause of the explosion or any casualties as operations were still ongoing.

According to Al Jazeera, the explosion happened near a gate leading to the Rangers’ headquarters. Soon after, armed attackers opened fire, triggering a clash with security forces. Teams from the Rapid Response Force, police commandos, and paramilitary units reached the spot and sealed the area as fighting continued.

Who Has Claimed The Responsibility?

According to local media reports, the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that nine of its fighters were involved in the operation. The incident began with a powerful explosion, followed by two smaller blasts. The attacker reportedly detonated explosives at the main gate of the headquarters, while other assailants opened fire on security personnel.
