Raj Sardana, now a billionaire entrepreneur, was born to Punjabi parents who had migrated to India during the Partition of 1947. His family lived in government housing in New Delhi for over 20 years, without basic amenities such as heating, air conditioning, a refrigerator, or even a phone. Despite financial hardships, his parents prioritised education, instilling the values of hard work and perseverance in their children.

In 1981, Sardana moved to the United States with just USD 100 to his name to pursue a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech. To support himself, he took a job at the university cafeteria, working tirelessly while studying. "I started my life from scratch here," he recalled.

After graduating, he secured an H-1 visa—an early version of today’s H-1B visa—and began working at Howmet Aerospace. This visa program allowed skilled professionals like him to contribute to the US economy, providing a stepping stone to a successful career.

Career Setback and Turning Point

By 1987, Sardana had joined Teledyne CAE, working on engines for Tomahawk missiles. However, the Cold War’s end in 1990 led to the shutdown of missile production, costing him his job. This came at a challenging time—he had just purchased a home, his daughter was six months old, and his parents were living with him.

Rather than returning to corporate life, Sardana took a bold step and decided to start his own business. With just USD 25,000 in savings, he launched what would eventually become a billion-dollar enterprise.

Building Innova Solutions

In 1998, Sardana founded American CyberSystems (ACS) in Atlanta, Georgia, focusing on IT services. Over the years, the company expanded significantly, rebranding as Innova Solutions in 2022. Today, it employs over 50,000 professionals worldwide and serves more than 1,100 clients, including Fortune 1000 companies.

Sardana’s business expertise extends beyond technology—he has worked in sectors like aerospace, finance, venture investment, and defence. His company’s contracts with the US government have earned him top-secret security clearance, further cementing his influence in the industry.

A Family-Led Enterprise

Innova Solutions is a family-run company, with Sardana’s wife, Nita Sardana, serving as Chief Impact Officer and co-founder. Their three children are also actively involved in the business, ensuring its continued success.
