Philippines Vice President Sara Duterte publicly stated on Saturday that she would have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr assassinated if she were killed, escalating tensions between two of the country's most influential political families.

During an early morning press conference, Duterte revealed that she had communicated with an assassin, instructing him to target Marcos, his wife, and the Speaker of the House in the event of her death.

Vice President Sara Duterte stated she instructed an individual to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta, and Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were killed, emphasising she was serious during a profanity-laden briefing.

VP Duterte, responding to an online comment about her safety, revealed she was in Congress overnight with her chief of staff but cited no specific threat. The Presidential Communications Office stated that her claim of hiring an assassin to target President Marcos had been referred to the Presidential Security Command for immediate action.

“I have talked to a person. I said, if I get killed, go kill BBM (Marcos), (first lady) Liza Araneta and (Speaker) Martin Romualdez. No joke. No joke,” Duterte said in the profanity-laden briefing. “I said, do not stop until you kill them and then he said yes.”

“This country is going to hell because we are led by a person who doesn’t know how to be a president and who is a liar," she said in the briefing.
