Henley Passport Index 2025: India’s ranking took a major jump by eight points to 77 this year in a global passport index, topped by Singapore for the third consecutive year. The data draws from the Henley Passport Index released by citizenship advisory firm Henley & Partners on Tuesday. The Henley Passport Index ranks countries based on the number of destinations their passport holders can enter without a prior visa, providing valuable insights into global mobility trends. The index is considered the standard reference tool for global citizens and sovereign states when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum.
India's historical ranking on Henley Passport Index

The 2025 Henley Passport Index indicates a significant leap for the Indian passport, climbing eight spots to rank 77th globally. Despite adding only two new destinations to its visa-free list, India now offers its citizens access to 59 countries without requiring a prior visa. These destinations include visa-free travel to Malaysia, Indonesia, Maldives, and Thailand, as well as visa-on-arrival access to Sri Lanka, Macau, and Myanmar.
Asian countries are leading Henley Passport Index
According to the index, Asian countries are leading the charge in global mobility. Singapore tops the list, offering visa-free entry to 193 destinations, followed closely by Japan and Korea, which provide visa-free travel to 190 countries. Japan’s ranking stood at 2nd this year, while it had the top slot from 2018-2023. In 2024, both Japan and Singapore shared the top rank.

India vs Pakistan ranking
According to a data chart available on the firm’s website, for the range of years from 2006-2025, India’s rank was the lowest at 90th in 2021, while its best score was in 2006 when the country was ranked 71st.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's ranking also improved a little bit. It ranked 101st in 2024 while it jumped six position to 96th this year.
