Hughes Fire: A new wildfire erupted in Los Angeles County on Wednesday, leading to evacuation of thousands of people from the region already dealing with the affects of the recent historic fires. The fast-moving wildfire has created panic among the residents of the nearby region and the authorities are on high alert.
The Hughes fire ignited on Wednesday afternoon in around 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The fire ignited near the mountain regions of Castaic Lake that is close to several residential areas and schools. The out-of-control Hughes fire has grown to around 9,500 acres in several hours. The fire got escalated in the region due to winds and dry brush.
The authority stated that no homes or businesses have been damaged by the fire yet, but the residents were asked to leave the place as the fire is getting deadly by each passing hour. The authority informed that about 31,000 people have been evacuated from the region. Apart from this, the residents were informed that Interstate 5, the primary highway that runs along the US West Coast from Mexico to Canada is closed, reported BBC.
The residents of the region on later part of the day received emergency alerts directing them to leave the place "immediately". Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department urged the residents to leave as the fire is expected to intensify and is also likely to damage several houses in the region. The residents got panicked as they received the notifications from the authorities as few of them had shifted from the place earlier too. "I'm just praying that our house doesn't burn down," one man was quoted as saying by broadcaster KTLA.
