A Lufthansa flight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner bound for Hyderabad was forced to make a U-turn and return to Frankfurt Airport on Sunday evening after reportedly being denied permission to land in India after a bomb threat aleart, according to ANI. The Hyderabad-bound flight, LH752, departed from Germany at around 14:14 local time and was scheduled to arrive at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport early Monday. However, flight tracker data showed that the flight diverted mid-flight just a few hours into its journey.
A bomb threat email targeting Lufthansa flight LH 752 was received at Hyderabad Airport at 6:01 PM on June 15, 2025. A Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was convened, and all procedures were followed as per the standard operating protocol (SOP). In the interest of safety, the airline was advised to divert to the origin or the nearest suitable airport, official sources said, according to ANI
Lufthansa Airlines told ANI, "We did not receive a permit to land in Hyderabad and that’s why the aircraft took a u-turn and returned."
The aircraft remained in the air for approximately two hours before making the U-turn, according to passengers on board. One passenger told PTI from Frankfurt Airport that Lufthansa was providing overnight accommodation, as the flight had been rescheduled for Monday morning.
What Passengers Said?
"We just landed back in Frankfurt around 15 minutes ago and all we were told is that Hyderabad hasn't given permission to land the flight there," said the female passenger en route from the US to visit her mother in Hyderabad.
“It was a smooth flight, but two hours in, they said we were going back. Now they’re giving us accommodation and said we’ll leave tomorrow at 10 am on the same flight,” she added.
There has been no official statement from Indian authorities so far. While Lufthansa has been contacted for an explanation, a spokesperson from Frankfurt Airport confirmed to PTI that the flight had indeed returned.
"We can confirm that the aircraft returned to Frankfurt. For further details, please contact the airline or the federal police," the spokesperson told PTI.
Lufthansa’s live flight tracker showed that Flight LH752 landed back in Frankfurt at around 5:30 PM local time. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, had departed for Hyderabad but turned around mid-air. Flight tracking site FlightAware also confirmed the aircraft's return.
Although the exact reason for the turnaround remains unclear, sources told PTI that Air Traffic Control at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport received a message from the flight crew shortly after takeoff, informing them of the decision to return to Frankfurt.
