US President Donald Trump has issued renewed threats toward Iran, claiming the United States “won’t wait so long this time” if Tehran resumes its nuclear program. Speaking at Naval Station Norfolk during a celebration of the US Navy’s 250th anniversary, Trump said Iran had been close to developing a nuclear weapon in June, despite intelligence assessments suggesting otherwise.
“They were going to have a nuclear weapon within a month,” Trump said. “And now they can start the operation all over again, but I hope they don’t because we’ll have to take care of that too if they do. I let them know that. You want to do that, it’s fine, but we’re going to take care of that and we’re not going to wait so long.”

Operation Midnight Hammer And US Strikes
Trump referenced the June 22 ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’, during which the US reportedly used bunker-buster bombs to strike three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The strikes followed an Israeli air campaign that began on June 13, targeting a dozen military and nuclear-related sites.

“The B2s, what they did. Those beautiful flying wings, what they did, they hit every single target. And just in case, we shot 30 Tomahawks out of a submarine,” Trump told the assembled sailors, highlighting the US military’s precision capabilities.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised the European Troika’s snapback sanctions as illegitimate, emphasising that Europe’s role in nuclear negotiations had diminished. Araghchi reiterated that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving tensions.
Boasting US Naval Power
At the ceremony, Trump celebrated the US Navy’s 250 years of service, calling it the “greatest fighting force ever to roam the seas.” Docked alongside the celebration were vessels representing 150,000 tons of American naval supremacy, which Trump described as “two colossal reasons why no one should ever want to start a fight with the USA.”
In addition to Iran-related remarks, Trump detailed recent US Navy operations against drug trafficking. He said US forces had intercepted a vessel allegedly carrying illegal drugs off Venezuela’s coast and warned that future efforts would also target land-based trafficking.
“In recent weeks, the Navy has supported our mission to blow the cartel terrorists the hell out of the water … we did another one last night. Now we just can’t find any. They’re not coming in by sea anymore, so now we’ll have to start looking about the land because they’ll be forced to go by land,” Trump said.
