India-Bangladesh Ties: In the new regime under the BNP leader Tarique Rahman's leadership, India and Bangladesh are poised to inject fresh energy into the relationship, which has been restrained during the caretaker government. According to BDNews24, India is set to restore all visa services in Bangladesh soon.
The Bangladeshi local media outlet reported that Aniruddha Das, India's senior consular official in Sylhet, said efforts were being taken to fully restore all visa services.
Das was quoted by the news outlet as saying that medical and double-entry visas are being issued now. He added that steps were being made to resume other categories, including travel visas.

PM Modi Invites Tarique Rahman To Visit India
In another development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Rahman to visit India along with his family. PM Modi said he is looking forward to working closely with the BNP leader to strengthen the multi-faceted bilateral relations.
In a letter to Rahman, PM Modi said as two close neighbours, India and Bangladesh have a deep-rooted friendship founded on shared history, cultural ties and the aspirations of the peoples for peace and prosperity.
"The strong convergence between our respective developmental priorities shall serve as a guiding principle for our future cooperation," he said in the letter that was handed over by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla when he called on Rahman after the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Dhaka.
Indian Visa Application Centre Suspended In December
Earlier in December last year, India suspended visa operations at its mission in Bangladeshi port city of Chattogram until further notice. The move taken after a fresh wave of unrest witnessed in Bangladesh following the death of prominent youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi.
“Due to the recent security incident at Assistant High Commission of India (AHCI) Chittagong, Indian visa operations at IVAC Chittagong (Chattogram) will remain suspended from 21/12/2025 until further notice,” the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) said in a brief statement.
