The Global Peace Index ranks 163 countries and territories using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators across three key domains: Societal Safety and Security, Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, Degree of Militarisation. These factors include crime rates, the impact of terrorism, political unrest, internal and external conflicts, military expenditures, and weapons access. The Global Peace Index 2025 is a mixed picture, while some nations are improving in their pursuit of peace, others remain mired in conflict and instability. India, despite being located in a high-conflict area, continues to trend upward in peacefulness, leading its South Asian neighbours. But overall, global peace is still under threat from ongoing conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and turmoil in the Middle East.
