An Indian professional working in Singapore has gone viral after sharing a candid video comparing workplace culture in India and Singapore, sparking a wider discussion on work-life balance and employee rights. Posting on Instagram, the man, identified as Aman, offered viewers a glimpse inside his Singapore office while sharing his personal experience of the stark difference in how leave and work boundaries are treated in the two countries. In his voiceover, Aman explained that in India, employees often feel pressured to justify their time off with emotional or dramatic reasons.

“India me leave maangnekeliyehumein beg karnapadtatha… we had to invent tragedy just to get a Friday leave,” he said. By contrast, he noted that in Singapore, he does not “ask” for leave, but simply informs his manager.

Clear After-Office Boundaries In Singapore

Aman highlighted the strict work-life boundaries he experienced abroad, saying that after 6 pm, his phone belongs to him and not his boss.

“Shaam 6 bajebaadmera phone merahai, boss ka nahi, no calls, no guilt, just life,” he said, adding that in India, staying late at the office is often mistaken for dedication, when in reality it can be a sign of exploitation.

‘Biggest Mindset Shift’ After Moving Abroad

In the caption of his post, Aman described his relocation to Singapore as the biggest mindset shift of his life. He wrote that in toxic work cultures, employees tend to overshare personal details in the hope of sympathy or approval, whereas in healthier systems, professionals simply notify their teams of their availability. 

The video quickly gained traction online, with many users saying they found his observations highly relatable. Several commenters noted that Western and international workplaces often function on “high-trust” models, focusing on outcomes rather than constant employee availability.
