A 29-year-old Indian-origin man, Varun Suresh, has been accused of murder after fatally stabbing 71-year-old registered sex offender David Brimmer in a targeted attack on Tuesday, September 23. Police said the attack was premeditated and intentional, and Suresh was arrested at the scene with a knife.
Authorities reported that when officers arrived, Brimmer was found unresponsive on the ground with stab wounds. Emergency responders attempted trauma care, but Brimmer was pronounced dead at the scene. Suresh was immediately detained under California’s Penal Code 187(a).
Alleged Motive And Court Statements
Court documents reveal that Suresh admitted to investigators that he had wanted to kill a sex offender for years, claiming that people like Brimmer “hurt children” and “deserve to die.” During questioning, Suresh allegedly referenced a quote: “It is not your duty to decide whether Heaven will accept them, it’s your duty to send them to the gates,” explaining that he saw it as justification for his actions.
Police say Suresh used California’s public Megan’s Law database to locate Brimmer, taking screenshots of his profile just 45 minutes before the attack. Investigators reported that Suresh chased Brimmer and stabbed him in the neck while instructing him to “repent.” When Brimmer attempted to crawl away, Suresh slit his throat to ensure the attack was fatal.
After his arrest, Suresh reportedly expressed no remorse, allegedly stating that he “didn’t feel sad at all” and even described the murder as “honestly really fun.” He also claimed he expected public support, reasoning that “everyone hates pedophiles.”
Past Criminal History
This is not the first time Suresh has been a target of the law. In 2021, Fremont police arrested him on charges of burglary, making a false threat with a bomb, and making criminal threats. In that instance, he also stated that his target was another suspected pedophile, the Hyatt Hotels CEO.

The authorities are still probing the crime, targeting Suresh's planning and intentions. Although police verified the assault was premeditated and aimed, the suspect explained to officers that he never had intentions of escaping arrest, thinking the public would sympathize with his cause against a convicted sex offender. Suresh, who is from Fremont, is now charged with murder and may face harsh legal penalties if convicted.
