Indian passport has climbed to 75th position in the latest global rankings, as per the Henley Passport Index for February 2026. This improvement grants Indian citizens the ability to travel visa-free or with visa-on-arrival access to 56 countries, up from 55 in the previous ranking for January 2026. The latest report highlights that one of the new destinations now available to Indian passport holders is The Gambia.

Referred to as the "Smiling Coast of Africa," The Gambia is a small West African nation that offers a blend of coastal charm, rich historical heritage, and diverse wildlife experiences.
The Gambia is a narrow strip of land in West Africa, bordered by Senegal and featuring a coastal stretch along the Atlantic Ocean. The country spans approximately 15 to 30 miles wide and stretches about 300 miles inland along the Gambia River. From tranquil beaches to thriving wildlife in Kiang West National Park and the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, The Gambia offers a peaceful retreat for travellers.
Visitors can reach The Gambia by direct flights from Europe (notably the UK and Belgium) and other African cities to Banjul International Airport (BJL), or travel overland from Senegal.
The ideal time to visit The Gambia is during its dry season, from November to May, when the weather is sunny and perfect for exploring its ecosystems along the Gambia River. The months from July to October are best avoided due to the hot, humid conditions and frequent rainfall, which can make travel more difficult.
