Iran War 2026: Amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, Iran has reportedly allowed selected ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz via a 'safe shipping corridor'. However, Tehran has only allowed the ships with prior approval to pass through the corridor, ensuring that it does not remain fully open for all the vessels. The prices of crude have surged through the roof as the movement of ships has gotten affected due to the ongoing conflict. However, Iran has reiterated that it has not closed one of the world's busiest oil chokepoints.
What Is The Current Process?
As per the reports, Iran has considered allowing the ships of several nations, including India, Pakistan, China, and Iraq, to pass through the chokepoint. However, a registration mechanism has been developed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to give permission to the ships. As per news agency Lloyd's List, the operators are required to provide detailed information to the IRGC before passing through the chokepoint.
At least nine ships, including three India-flagged gas tankers, Shivalik, Nanda Devi, and Jag Laadki, have already passed through the corridor. The reports asserted that instead of moving through Omani waters, the ships passed through Iranian territorial waters under the supervision of the IRGC. Apart from this, each tanker operator reportedly also paid around USD 2 million to secure safe passage through the corridor.
US President Donald Trump has claimed that the American Navy will soon be able to ensure a safe passage for the ships; however, the experts pointed out that it would not be an easy task. Apart from this, the western allies of America, including Germany, France, England, and Italy, also refused to directly participate in the conflict.
While Iran has assured that it has not closed the chokepoint entirely, the passage of ships through the strait has not been smooth since the war began.
